Thaw is a series of electroacoustic pieces inspired by specific sounds and soundscapes of Spring. "The Resonant Qualities of Street Gutters" uses the sound sources of ten different street gutters catching the melting snow. "Ice Meditation" takes its source from a large sheet of ice on the sidewalk while one applies pressure to its surface. And "Get Over Here We're Playing Musical Chairs" uses the soundscape of a local playground for its source, the sound of children playing outside being a large part of the transformation of Spring's soundscape in any climate of harsh winters.
